Microsoft has unveiled practical new features for Windows 11, including Voice Clarity, 80Gbps USB support, and enhanced sharing and compression capabilities. As part of the Windows 11 Canary Channel, Build 26040 introduces these features, though it’s uncertain if they will be released to the general public. Notably, Microsoft integrated the previously released “remote capture” feature into the Snipping Tool app.

While not introducing groundbreaking features, this release includes several useful additions expected to enhance the stable Windows channel this fall.

  • Remote Capture in Snipping Tool: Microsoft initially launched a “remote capture” feature last fall, streamlining the process of capturing and editing photos from smartphones. Now, this feature is part of the Snipping Tool app, requiring users to link their PC to their Android phone and toggle the feature within Windows 11 Settings.
  • Crystal-Clear Calls, Anywhere:: Microsoft’s Voice Clarity, previously exclusive to Surface devices, is now available on all Windows 11 PCs with x64 processors. This AI-powered feature enhances voice quality during calls, suppressing background noise and emphasizing the user’s voice. It operates on the system level and supports apps using Communications Signal Processing Mode.
  • Lightning-Fast Connections: USB4 is advancing to 80Gbps technology, matching Thunderbolt 5. Initially launching on select devices with Intel Core 14th Gen HX-series mobile processors, Windows now officially supports USB 80Gbps, expected to debut on hardware in mid-2024 or later.
  • Share and Zip with Ease: The sharing tool in Windows 11 introduces more options, including WhatsApp, Twitter/X, Gmail, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Sharing speed has significantly improved. Additionally, File Explorer now supports more compression formats, such as GZIP, BZIP2, and various TAR formats.
  • Small Tweaks, Big Impact:The Copilot icon has moved to the right side of the system tray for better accessibility. The Windows Setup Experience has been updated to align with the Windows 11 look for media installations.
