Introducing the Rabbit R1, an innovative AI gadget available at $199. CEO Jesse Lyu clarifies that it isn’t meant to immediately replace your phone. Resembling a Playdate console or a modernized ’90s handheld TV, the R1 boasts a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a rotating camera, and a scroll wheel/button for navigation. Despite its fingerprint magnet exterior, it maintains a premium feel and is surprisingly lightweight. Designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering, the R1 features a robust 2.3GHz MediaTek processor, 4GB of memory, and 128GB of storage, ensuring a smooth user experience.
The true marvel lies in Rabbit’s operating system, Rabbit OS, and the AI technology behind it. Differing from ChatGPT, Rabbit OS acts as a smart controller for apps, simplifying tasks such as controlling music or ordering a car through a unified interface, eliminating the need for multiple apps.
Rabbit distinguishes itself through its unique approach to app integration. Instead of relying on developers, Rabbit trained its model, Large Action Model (LAM), by observing human interactions with existing apps. LAM learns app functionality, recognizing icons and menus. The R1 even allows users to teach it specific actions.
While the long-term impact of Rabbit’s approach is yet to be fully understood, the R1 aims to be more than a device with a chatbot. It seeks to provide a single interface for various tasks. Preorders are available now, with shipping expected to commence in March, marking a captivating entry into the world of AI gadgets.
